Chanderi, a traditional ethnic fabric, is characterised by its lightweight, fine luxurious feel and sheer texture. Chanderi fabric borrowed its name from the small town Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh (MP) where traditional weavers practice the art of producing textured sarees in silk and cotton decorated with fine zari work. This fabric is produced by weaving in silk and golden Zari in the traditional cotton yarn. Chanderi fabric can be classified into three types- 1) Chanderi silk cotton
2) pure silk and 
3) Chanderi cotton.

On Chanderi fabric, the buttis or motifs are mainly hand woven on the handloom. To create different motifs Separate needles are used. Weavers coat these motifs with gold, silver, and copper.
